This is the blog of our visit to Stonehenge for the summer solstice 2006 - we arrived in good time for a little pre-communing-with-history drinkies.

There is a short video (5MB) of our arrival and the amazing soundscape around the stones - it is on youtube.com - first time I have used this service - apologies for any mess-ups

(if you can't see the movie immediately below - then you need to get and install the 'macromedia flash' plugin for your browser)

About a mile to go

A little lost soul? (looking for the loos)

Security? - pretty poor at enforcing English Heritage Policy - judging by the amazing quantities alcohol beiing consumed, the number of folks climbing and jumping the stones and the variety of drugs being consumed/on offer

Bille seems to be enjoying the visit

A bit of a scrum as you get closer to the stones

"Can you feel the force?"

The "proof" photo

The Bluestones were bagged by a gang of Chavs

Attempting to sleep - the henge ditch was quite comfortable - nice long grasss - but when it rained (and it did - heavily) it was best to lay on your stomach and let it run down your raincoat and overtrousers. Was woken up by some stupid American looking for "Andy"

!

Perhaps they should have arranged them in a circle?

Massive crush as you approach the centre of the Sarsen Stones

The scrum continues

The wee small hours and cars are still arriving

Some sort of Salsa Band - with a 'green man' - lots of energy and lots of stamina - not sure what the point of it all was

Some druids - some pretty miserable druids - shame really

Take your position for the sunrise

3:30am - the crowd and noise got too much

Half and hour before sunrise

Chav-Central on the stones

Cold, Wet, Tired and (mostly) Stoned

A dim glow on the horizon

Any minute now...

Hey - get out of my shot!

Closest thing we saw to a sunrise

All over for another year
